We halt halfway up the pass at Llulluchapampa and only ascend halfway up the pass. A steeper Inca path will lead us to the lovely cloud woods, where flora and wildlife thrive. Possible to see hummingbirds amid the tropical plants. The route goes to Llulluchapampa (3680m/12073ft), a grassy area favored by Andean deer with a spectacular vista. After our visit, we will have lunch with the porters. Then, the porters and chefs are thanked for their hard work. We leave Wiñayhuayna to hike to Sun Gate (2,670m/8,759 ft). One of the key benefits of trekking The Inca Trail Treks are that there are a number of options available in terms of how you want to organize your trek. Generally though, there are two ways to trek the Inca Trail Treks:
- Group Trek Services
- Private Trek Services (Standard, Comfort or Deluxe).
The main difference between the various Inca Trail Trek services are the number of people in the group, the level of comfort that you can expect, the quality of the guide, food and camping equipment, how well the porters are treated and whether the company will actually guarantee their departure date, even if they can’t find anyone else to fill up the group. The prices quoted below are to be used as a guide only and may vary considerably from company to company. Services are generally classified into the following groups: Group or Private Services.
Group: You simply join up with other trekkers from all over the world to make a larger group. The maximum allowable group size on the Inca Trail Treks is 16 persons. This service is known as a group service (or pooled service). The advantage of this type of service is that the trek works out cheaper and that you get to meet other likeminded people from all over the world. The disadvantage is that the groups can be fairly large and that people within the group can be of mixed ability. When the group is larger than 8 persons, regulations require that two guides are used.
Private Trek Services are arranged just for you and your friends. If there are just two of you this type of service can work out very expensive since the cost of the guide, cook, porters etc. are obviously spread amongst just the two of you. If there are six or more of you in your group then the cost is considerably reduced and may well be worth considering.
Important:
-Please book early, because the permits for the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu are sold out months in advance.
-Deposit for the Inca Trail (*and the entrance to Machu Picchu) NON-REFUNDABLE! The reason is that the Ministery of Culture (Ministerio de Cultura) does not refund any money when a passenger cancels or changes a date or name. The fact is that if a passenger cancels his/her space, no one else will get it.
For this reason we are requesting that passengers purchase travel cancellation insurance.

We also urge them to check with their doctor to update vaccines and review medical concerns regarding international travel.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
The high altitudes reached on this trip and the amount of walking involved, often on uneven terrain, requires that you be in good physical condition to fully enjoy the trip. We strongly suggest that you consult your physician if you have any concerns regarding your ability to handle these conditions. In order to visit so many of Peru's must-see sights, this tour requires several long bus rides as well as early morning departure times in order to comply with flight and train schedules. Your patience and understanding are appreciated. We recommend that you purchase a travel protection plan to help protect you and your travel investment so you can relax and enjoy your trip with some peace of mind. The travel protection plan we recommend, through Travelex Insurance Services, helps provide coverage for trip cancellation, trip interruption, trip delay, baggage delay, baggage loss and theft, medical expense and evacuation, and more.
Altitude sickness
Altitude sickness can catch many travellers off guard. Not everyone gets sick at high altitudes, and it is difficult to predict who is likely to be badly affected by it. For most people, it is nothing more than a mild headache and a dizzy sensation that diminishes over a short period of time (1-2 days).
We strongly recommend acclimatizing to the altitude before partaking in the trek. It could be done by taking it easy on the first day in Cusco (resting, eating small portions of food, drinking lots of water) or gradually ascending throughout other cities. If short on time, consult your doctor on taking altitude sickness (acetazolamide/Diamox) or go for the natural remedy used by locals, chewing coca leaves.
Inca Trek RECOMMENDATIONS:
Confirmation will be received at the time of booking.
A current valid passport is required on the day of travel.
Packing list for Inca Trail Trek 4 days / 3 nts
HIKING BOOTS: First off you will need a good pair or well worn-in hiking boots. Do not arrive in Cusco – Peru with badly fitted boots or brand new boots. You will undoubtedly get sore feet and blisters.
SLEEPING BAG: A very warm (protection up to -10 degrees Celsius), mummy-shaped sleeping bag. This you can rent in Cusco.
CLOTHING: A selection of layered trekking clothing, from next-to-skin base layers, to fleece second layers and a water / wind proof shell jacket and trousers. Also bring trekking socks, thermal socks, warm gloves and warm headwear.
TREKKING POLES: Adjustable trekking poles that are easy to store and sturdy under pressure. This you can rent in Cusco.
SUNGLASSES: High UV protection sunglasses that can deal with the sun intensity and glare in Cusco.
DAYPACK: A light-weight daypack to carry your essentials gear.
HEADLAMP: Good quality, LED headlamp
OTHER ACCESSORIES: Water bottles / hydration bags, water purification tablets, general medications, snacks and toiletry supplies (although these can be purchased on most routes but increase in price as you get higher)
Physically prepare yourself
For the Classic Inca Trail or other treks in Peru, is important that your body is adequately prepared for the physical challenges of trekking. It is thus important that you assess your own condition and train accordingly. In general, the fitter you are, the easier it will be for you to handle the rigors of the trek. A well-rounded training program would include strength training, aerobic cross training, and hiking (ideally at high altitude but not necessary).
